About the Critiquers
Publisher and Senior Editor – Kiri Jorgensen
Kiri Jorgensen is the Publisher and Senior Editor at Chicken Scratch Books. She is also a writer, teacher, entrepreneur, and most importantly wife and mother. Her involvement in the world of children’s literature spans almost three decades from several different angles. She taught in the public schools for 16 years where she created writing curriculums for middle school kids. She has written and produced over 30 stage plays for children, served as the Regional Advisor for SCBWI Montana, and has taught writing courses in a variety of settings, age ranges, and genres. Her passion is all books middle grade, but she is especially drawn to small town historical, true to life contemporary, and of course well-crafted magical realism. Any strong middle grade story will connect.
Besides the world of teaching and story, Kiri loves gardening, sewing quilts, being in nature, and bragging about her four amazing kids. She lives with her husband and a plethora of pets in rural Montana, where she cooks her meals on a wood-burning cookstove and is grateful every day for being right where she is.
Literary Agent – Colleen Oefelein
Colleen has over a decade of experience in the publishing industry, having worked at NY’s the Jennifer De Chiara Literary Agency and Inklings Literary Agency. She founded Adventure Write in 2007, and she’s proud to represent authors across the political and religious spectrums. A former associate literary agent, an agency PR Manager and author of YA, picture books, and author promotion guides, she’s also an insatiable bookworm and the owner of the book review site, North of Normal.
As a mentor, Colleen has hosted numerous “Pitch Perfect” and “Rejection Correction” workshops on Facebook and at conferences nationwide, and she’s mentored several authors one-on-one through online pitch contests such as Pitch Wars. She teaches an advanced creative writing module at a local middle school and hosted an annual free writing contest for kids for 10 years. A disabled veteran, Colleen was an engineer in the Air Force, working space launch. She holds a BS in chemical engineering/biotechnology and a separate BS in German, both from Penn State. She’s also a former 911 call taker and dispatcher for Alaska troopers. She represents picture books, middle grade, young adult, and adult books in many genres.

Thanks so much for helping me spread the word about DREAD WATCH. I appreciate you guys! I’m Jared Agard and I love anything creative. I am a teacher at the Beaverton Academy of Science and Engineering (BASE), and I teach art and film classes. Best job ever!
I live in Beaverton, OR with my family. My gorgeous wife and I have three goofy boys, two awesome tiger oscars, and one dog named Apollo who is the most pathetic dog on the planet. 🙂 I love writing, drawing, painting, making movies, watching cartoons and movies, playing board games and video games, and cooking.

Author – Brielle Porter
Brielle D. Porter lives with her husband and three sons on a lavender farm in Northern Idaho. When she’s not writing or secretly reading books under the covers, she can be found running or beekeeping. Jester is her debut novel. You can find Brielle on Twitter.
Author – Erin Maglione
Erin has a double degree in American Studies and Journalism with a minor in English. She worked in Journalism and Public Relations in Southern California, and lived in Colorado and Ohio before moving to Germany to teach English. She now lives in Bielefeld where the city’s Altstadt, Bauernhaus, and 800-year-old castle inspired the setting for her novel. She is a member of the Historical Novel Society, and is represented by Adventure Write’s Colleen Oefelein.
Author – Kristy Feltenberger Gillespie
Kristy is a middle school librarian, former middle school counselor, blogger, and author of Young Adult fantasy. She lives in Virginia with her husband and daughter. She’s represented by Adventure Write’s Colleen Oefelein.
