Queries 101 Workshop

Queries 101 Workshop

sell-that-book-cover

How to Write a Query 101 covers everything a querying author needs to sell their book to an agent or editor. An accompanying PowerPoint presentation demonstrates everything from basic formatting to how to pen an intriguing synopsis. Participants will learn the professional way to pitch their book. With industry examples of successful queries and their back-cover blurbs to guide them, writers will produce a query letter for their own book.

Session Marketing Description:

You only get one bite at the apple. Learn to write a successful query letter, see examples of queries that worked, and brainstorm a pitch for your own query.

Colleen’s Bio:

CM McCoy is well aware nobody can say or spell her last name, hence the pen name. You can call her Colleen. She’s published in YA and is the PR manager for Inklings Literary Agency. She’s been interviewed by PEOPLE Magazine, appeared on ABC’s 20/20, and booked appearances on Alaska’s local news morning shows. She’s read hundreds of queries and taken pitches for an agents at writer’s conferences, but she vividly remembers the anxiety and uncertainty on the other side of the aisle–after all, it was only two years ago that she was a querying and pitching author herself. Now she mentors pre-published authors in contests such as #FicFest and #QueryKombat. Her debut novel, EERIE, a YA paranormal set in Alaska, was published in Dec 2015 by Omnific/Simon & Schuster. She holds a BS in both Chemical Engineering and German, flies helicopters, and (if you feed her enough whiskey) Irish dances.

Take-aways:

Attendees will learn how to craft an intriguing hook and write a successful query. Each participant will get an example of a successful query and if they wish, Colleen will email them some of the slides from the presentation.
