In which I respond to a 7/7/7 challenge

Thank you Brent for thinking of me with your 7/7/7 challenge.

The rules of the 7/7/7 Challenge are:
  1. Go to page 7 of your WIP.
  2. Scroll down to Line 7.
  3. Share the next 7 sentences in a blog post.
  4. After the excerpt, tag 7 other writers to continue the challenge.

Since my work-in-progress has no 7th page, I’ll share my 7 8 from my 7th of 30 Days with Dr. Death (I’ve never been good at math, and eight seemed like a better seven anyway.):

“Be a bumpy ride,” said Dennis, pulling my bag from the back as another gust blew his stringy hair sideways. “Use your GPS.”

As if I needed it.

“—and Hannah,” he said, sounding annoyed, “watch that false horizon.”

“Thanks,” I mumbled, though my tone was anything but grateful. I didn’t even look at him as I grabbed my duffle, and then I turned my back on him. Normally, I’d roll my eyes or fire off a sharp retort, but at that moment, I hated him too much to pay him attention. He was a callous brute, and he didn’t deserve it.

And now I’d like to see the 7/7/7 of these freaky writer darlings. I challenge you:
