About the Book
I’m one of those crazy writers who enjoys the hell out of E.L. James’ writing and especially her storytelling. I loved the 50 Shades trilogy, and I thought GREY was nothing short of fascinating. Absolutely brilliant. Though I already knew the story, GREY made it fresh, fun, exciting, funny, and heartbreaking all over again. I laughed. I cried. I lived every anxious, self-loathing second of Christian’s days.Highly recommended for fans of 50 Shades, but if you hated that trilogy, you probably won’t like this book either.
What I loved: EL James has this way of marking time in her writing that gives it a pleasant cadence. The words fly past. The story moves. One fun thing I found while writing this post was James’ YouTube playlist, which is fantastic. (scroll to the bottom for link) Of course, my favorite aspect of almost every novel is the love story, and this one impaled my heart. (again) What I didn’t love: Not much. I was already in love with Christian Grey, and this book delivered his story perfectly. Skim factor: Low. I skimmed his graduation speech and the contract (which I’d read in the trilogy). Otherwise, I snarfed up every steamy word. |
5 Stars. No question. I devoured this book. I rated this 5-stars on Goodreads and Amazon.
Grey: Fifty Shades of Grey as Told by Christian
by E L James
Paperback: 576 pages
Vintage (June 18, 2015)
Summary:
See the world of Fifty Shades of Grey anew through the eyes of Christian Grey.
In Christian’s own words, and through his thoughts, reflections, and dreams, E L James offers a fresh perspective on the love story that has enthralled millions of readers around the world.
Christian Grey exercises control in all things; his world is neat, disciplined, and utterly empty—until the day that Anastasia Steele falls into his office, in a tangle of shapely limbs and tumbling brown hair. He tries to forget her, but instead is swept up in a storm of emotion he cannot comprehend and cannot resist. Unlike any woman he has known before, shy, unworldly Ana seems to see right through him—past the business prodigy and the penthouse lifestyle to Christian’s cold, wounded heart.
Will being with Ana dispel the horrors of his childhood that haunt Christian every night? Or will his dark sexual desires, his compulsion to control, and the self-loathing that fills his soul drive this girl away and destroy the fragile hope she offers him?
This book is intended for mature audiences.
